Alert: Scam Poses as Union Workers Credit Card Company
Union members are receiving notices from a third party credit card company, stating they are pre-approved for a $10,000 platinum credit card. But the offer appears to be a scam.
The promotional literature sent by the bogus Union Workers Credit Services states that "Good things happen to good people like you." The consumer is offered a $10,000 credit account, but of course there is a catch. The consumer has to send an advanced fee of $37 before receiving the credit card.
Instead, after paying the fee, consumers receive a paper credit card that can only be used to purchase merchandise from the credit services' catalogue.
It is a con that the Fort Worth, Texas Better Business Bureau (BBB) says is the source of many complaints and inquiries from the public.
Information from the BBB files shows that the credit services company is sending the deceitful mailings from Fort Worth. The company has an unsatisfactory BBB file condition due to a pattern of complaints concerning advertising issues and refund practices.
The BBB advises consumers that when evaluating a credit card solicitation, determine whether the offer is from a bank that actually issues regular credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard, or from a company that will only assist you in applying for a credit card.
For more information, go to The Better Business Bureau at Fort Worth Local Alerts And News, or click on Company & Charity Reports, and enter "Union Workers Credit Services, Inc." to read the full public report.
